Article Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 3
Review - Article Example According to the author, Walter Whiteââ¬â¢s attempts serve as the lessons of history to the pioneers of the new NAACP Hollywood bureau (Cripps 116). The author indicates that both agencies (the old and the new bureau) shared a common purpose (that is, to influence the moviemaking field at its starting place), however, their tactics were different because their assaults began at different times. NAACP led by White was an alien force originating from the East that attempted to lay siege on Hollywood because its entire institutional foundation ââ¬Å"served to deny African American life and culture a place on the screen, save for a caricature inherited from historyâ⬠(Cripps 116). The present NAACP bureau is equated to a coalition of black elements of craft guilds and studio arts that seek to improve the rewards of membership. In other words, the aim of the association is to penetrate Hollywood past studio crafts into commercial Hollywood (Cripps 116). Both bureaus have attempted to make the presence of African Americans felt in Hollywood. However, the tactics used by the old bureau presents major problems that the new bureau has to evade if it has to succeed. The voice of White only ââ¬Å"spoke to the situation of the studios themselves, and none spoke to the plight of the black actorsâ⬠(Cripps 122). Thus, White was accused of threatening the livelihood of the African Americans and meddling in affairs that he barely understood. The article uses media imagery to illustrate its points. For instance, media imagery reveals the stalemate between NAACP and its allies about tactics that are acceptable. Walter White suggested the creation of an NAACP Hollywood bureau that was to stand against pejorative stereotyping of the African Americans in moviemaking. However, the liberal allies saw his move as suppression and the black actors accused him of trying

Multinational Corporation and State Relations in Emerging Markets Essay
Multinational Corporation and State Relations in Emerging Markets (there are lots of other possible topics) - Essay Example The situations suggest that a possible synergy exists between an MNC and an emerging state. There are strong advantages in multinationals setting up their operations, or at least part of it, in emerging countries, since this may establish a mutually beneficial arrangement. At the beginning, this is usually the case. Time passes, the countryââ¬â¢s economy develops and the increasingly affluent population creates higher demand for the firmââ¬â¢s products. With the rising standard of living, the state finds the need to raise legislated wages, which usually works against the interests of the multinational corporation ââ¬â because after all, MNCs seek to lower their costs. The MNCââ¬â¢s costs rise and their reason for setting up operations in a developing country slowly goes away. Other sources of disagreements emerge, such as the exploitation of natural resources, the repatriation of earnings out of the host economy and to the MNCââ¬â¢s headquarters in the home country, t he regulation of certain policies and processes considered standard by the MNC but unacceptable by the locality, and so forth. There is therefore a difference of roles and interests between the MNC and the host state, which may sometimes lead to conflicting goals; to maintain their working relationship, a balance of these interests must necessarily be achieved for the MNC to continue its productive and marketing activities in the country and for that countryââ¬â¢s economy to continue to reap the benefits of the MNCââ¬â¢s presence. This study examines the dynamics and implications of the relationships between MNC and host countries. The purpose is to understand how these relationships are changing over time in response to the increasing globalization, and how problems about them may be addressed and resolved. Multinational corporation defined There is no formal definition of what a multinational corporation essentially is (Ajami, Cool, Goddard & Khambata, 2006, p. 6), and the t erm is often applied to a variety of business entities which have nothing in common except that they have some form of international participation or involvement. Some see multinationals loosely as companies that have parts of their production located in two or three different countries (Hoos, 2000), and some with markets in two or three different countries. Some see the MNC as ââ¬Å"a number of affiliated business establishmentsâ⬠(Logar, 1980, p. 7), while others define it as ââ¬Å"a single organization with a need to coordinate its operations across multiple environmentsâ⬠(Haghirian, 2010, p. 46). The presence of multinationals in a country need not be directly through wholly-owned subsidiaries. MNCs can operate through joint ventures with local firms, or by acquiring controlling interests in businesses already strategically located in a particular country. MNC interests with the least commitment to the country is in the form of exports where the products are shipped to the country in completion of orders from institutional customers, followed by franchises or licenses which the MNC may extend to established firms that would like to operate under the license and with the trade mark of the MNC. In these cases, the multinational corporation could extend their presence in another country without directly investing in it (Johnson & Turner, 2009, p. 247). An example of such MNC operation is seen in the Taiwanese market. Quanta Computers, Inc., a Taiwanese firm, served as contract

Improving Quality through Introduction of Infection Control System in Essay
Improving Quality through Introduction of Infection Control System in OT in Ibn Al Nafees - Essay Example ere the healthcare professionals engaged in hospital care services are rendered restricted in terms of choice of antibiotics while treating these cases. This becomes more significant in operating theaters. For example, strains of Staphylococcus aureus that are resistant to methicillin and multiple other antibiotics are endemic in numerous hospital environments, leaving vancomycin as the sole effective antimicrobial agent for many patients infected with this microorganism. The majority of these clinical isolates being methicillin resistant coagulase-negative Staphylococci, there had been increasing reliance on vancomycin for surgical prophylaxis. In no time, there were reports of emerging strains of vancomycin-resistant enterococci. This indicates that choosing newer antibiotics is not the appropriate approach to handle such situations. To add to this problem, in the hospital environment, there are increasing incidences of infections with poly-antimicrobial resistant strains of differ ent other common hospital-acquired strains such as Pseudomonas, other Gram-negative bacilli, and enterobacteriaceae. They are increasingly resistant to more frontline antimicrobials, such as quinolones, aminoglycosides, monobactams, and third-generation cephalosporins. This culminates into a situation where nosocomial infections occur, but the care professionals are left with no options for treatment in the hospitalisation settings, which faces absolute erosion in the efficacy of even the newest antimicrobial agents mainly due to very rapid emergence of resistance. Failure to treat such conditions in the postsurgical patients would lead to situations involving longer hospital stay, increased morbidity or mortality, stakeholder dissatisfaction, and increased financial consequences for both the hospital and the clients (Curran, 2001). It indicates that the best way to get rid of these infections is to prevent them, since the other therapeutic eradication measures lead to morbidity,

Modernizing Rulers in the Middle East Assignment
Modernizing Rulers in the Middle East - Assignment Example Ataturk was a well-known military man. His victories and losses defined his role as a leader. While Reza Shah was in the military, the people did not gain trust in him due to the lack of victories and losses in actual battle. Since Ataturk was respected more, he could implement the changes and secularization of his country.
